NetMACS

NetMACS 3

Your network at a glance

More and more large European companies have decided to create their own wide area networks. Usually as a sub-net within an existing public or private network by hiring leased lines. During this process it becomes obvious that the creation and maintenance of a complex network is dependent on its entire system architecture and the network management.

TDT relies on a concept of split network management function and intelligence within each network component. Every TDT network component represents an independent sub-management station. The concept of split management intelligence offers unlimited flexibility and adaptability as well as a minimum of management traffic within the net.

During the development of the network management system NetMACS 3, TDT had the following requirements:
  • Implementation of inexpensive technology
  • Freely configurable graphical user interface
  • Comprehensible system structure
  • Active alarm system, only burdens the network, when alarm data is transmitted
This presents the requirement for active sub-management stations in the network.
  • Polling system for less intelligent network components
  • Collection of accounting data
  • Collection of performance orientated data
  • Access control
The Network management system NetMACS 3 consists of a software package for a PC as well as a special CPU with an interface unit for the DCC. The CPU gathers all alarm and management data from the network and transmits it via a multi-point line to the management system. The management system can simultaneously process multiple alarm data tickets and maintain various network connections, which are only restricted by the number of possible network connections.

The network management system can be installed anywhere within the network. The functionality of NetMACS 3 was structured based on the OSI management concept.
